HAKI DOKU

A story of sport, people and new challenges...

I do not like to define myself through records or results. I am simply a person who, after a difficult moment in life, found in sport the strength to start again and keep looking forward.

My journey has taken me much further than I could have imagined: from the Paralympic Games to Guinness World Records, and today to adaptive golf and international competitions.

But behind every result there is not only my name and my effort. There are people, family, friends, companies and supporters who have walked this journey with me.

“Every challenge can become a new opportunity.”

01 · My story

Starting again through sport...

A small step can have great value.

In 1997 an accident profoundly changed my life. I had to learn many things again and face a completely new reality.

Little by little, sport became a way to regain independence, motivation and confidence.

It has not been an easy journey, and it still is not. There are good days and more difficult ones. But I have learned that even a small step can have great value when it helps you keep moving forward.

The speed of freedom...

My first great sporting passion.

Handcycling gave me the chance to compete again and to feel part of a world of sport, effort and passion.

An emotion I will always carry with me...

Albania · Paralympic Games · Flag bearer

In 2012 I had the honour of representing Albania in handcycling at the London Paralympic Games.

Being the first athlete to represent the country at the Paralympic Games and carrying the flag at the opening and closing ceremonies was difficult to put into words.

Behind that flag were my country, my family, the company where I work and all the people who had supported me up to that moment.

04 · Guinness World Records

THREE RECORDS.
SO MANY PEOPLE.

Over the years I have taken on some unusual challenges. The numbers matter, but when I look at them I think above all about the preparation, the difficulties and the people beside me. A Guinness World Record carries one athlete’s name, but behind that name there is always a team.

05 · Today: golf

A new sport, a new school of life

Humility, focus, shot after shot.

After many sporting experiences, golf gave me a new challenge. Thanks to the Paragolfer I can play in an upright position and share the course with many other golfers.

Golf has taught me one thing above all: humility. You can play well today and make mistakes tomorrow. You accept the shot you just played, learn from it and think about the next one.

Golf e inclusione
06 · Golf and inclusion

Players first...

Same course. Same values. More opportunities.

When we are on the first tee, I do not want to be seen only as “a disabled athlete”. I simply want to be a golfer.

Each of us has our own swing, handicap, mistakes and passion. To me, this is inclusion: not feeling different, but feeling part of the same game.

No achievement belongs to one person alone...

My family. My club. The people. The partners.

My family. My club. The people who support me in training and competitions. The companies and partners who support my projects. Friends who often work behind the scenes without appearing in the photographs.

An important part of every achievement belongs to them. Without their support, many of the experiences told on these pages simply would not have been possible.
